Here are five tips for what to do after you’re in a car accident
If you are in an accident of any kind involving a car, truck, pedestrian, animal or fixed structure, stop! Never leave the scene of an accident without contacting local authorities. Immediately put your flashers on. Set up flares if possible. If you, any of your passengers or those in the other vehicle are injured, call 911 or ask someone to call for you. Turn off your engine, wait for help to arrive (and call Garcia Law once it is safe to do so).
Call 911, even if there are no serious injuries. You may need a police report to file a claim with your insurance company. The vehicles involved in the crash should remain where they are, unless they interfere with traffic.
Exchange contact and insurance information with the other driver(s). Try to get the full name and contact information of driver and passengers, insurance company/policy number, driver’s license and license plate number, type, color and model of vehicle (photos), and the exact location of accident. If there are witnesses, try to obtain their contact information as well. If possible, get photos of all vehicles involved in the accident before they are moved.
Tell police officers(s) and medical personnel exactly what happened. If you are not sure, say so. Do not make up answers or speculate. When asked if you are injured, say you are not sure, rather than no. Pain from injuries are often masked during the street of an accident. Verify, to the best of your ability, statements made by others involved to be accurate. Notify your insurance company as soon as possible.
Some injuries may not be apparent immediately after a car crash. Visit a physician to make sure you are okay—no matter how minor your injuries may be. Remember, there are time limits to ensure that your medical providers are paid. It’s important to keep records of all details pertaining to your accident. Including insurance claim number, the name of the claim adjuster handling your claim, names and phone numbers of all contacts, name and badge number of responding police officer(s), a copy of the police report, receipts for your rental car and other related expenses, copies of all photos taken at the accident site, and your medical records.
Finally, be sure to call Garcia Law, PL, so we can protect you and fight for what is owed to you after a car accident.
Have You Been Injured in a Car Accident?
Unfortunately, a car accident is a common occurrence on South Florida roadways. Increased congestion, roadway construction, and reckless drivers on I-95, the Turnpike, and other major thoroughfares make you feel like you’re taking your life into your hands every time you get behind the wheel. That’s why the State of Florida requires drivers to carry car insurance to legally drive on its streets. When you’ve been in an accident, however, sometimes making those insurance companies or other responsible parties pay for the full extent of your injuries or damages can be a challenge. That’s where Garcia Law, PL, can help.
We have been practicing law in this area for more than three decades. We understand insurance company tactics and how they handle traffic accident claims. More importantly, the insurance accident victims should not be subjected to an overly aggressive insurance attorney or an impersonal and callous insurance adjuster. By delivering skilled, compassionate, intellectual, and aggressive representation, Garcia Law can help you move past your accident and on the road to recovery.
